Benefits of Aloe Vera Soup - Beautiful Skin Inside & Out | AKP Skincare

What  Are the  Benefits of Aloe Vera?

You must have been heard or read that aloe vera is a wonderful natural acne remedy and stomach ulcer treatment. But the real question remains: is it true? Is aloe vera poisonous? What are the real benefits of aloe vera? How can I use aloe vera when it doesn’t have a good taste? All of these questions make it seem difficult to have beautiful skin.

The good news is, you can have beautiful skin by consuming Aloe Vera, and enjoying it. This is my favorite soup for summer! When the weather is hot, my great grandma makes this soup to “cool”  down. Of course, she didn’t understand exactly why this soup helps us cool down. She just simply learned from previous ancestors and continued the tradition.  In this blog, you will learn how to make the soup and some of the benefits of aloe vera.

A Little Background

I decided to study natural medicine to heal myself, as well as my husband’s stomach ulcer. My mentor from UWS, the University of Western Sydney, and my husband think I study “quackery”. In reality, I keep an open mind and study why sometimes aloe vera doesn’t work or can be poisonous.

My husband said there was a time every TV channel had an advertisement about aloe vera. It was considered a secret potion, or a fountain of youth, and many commercial products included aloe vera. From skincare to soap to lotion to beauty drinks & supplements, these products marketed aloe vera. However, these products did not deliver results as promised.

The problem is, advertisers often over-promise when it comes to herbal supplements. They use the same tactics as big pharmaceutical companies. The tactic is to concentrate on one chemical compound in the herbs, such as focusing on the benefits of aloe vera. Paradoxically, most of these compounds are poisonous. The big companies ignore the folk-lore traditional use and preparation of the herbs.

Aloe Vera Crosscut, only use the translucent pulp for food. Never the green layer. It contains a lot of toxic to prevent eaten by the predator. Aloe very smart isn’t it. However Human are smarter.

My Personal Experience

In my personal experience with aloe vera, it is used in food with love and care. I always pay good attention when preparing my food. The holistic value of love and care is very important in health and healing with any herbal remedies.

Because my husband was very persistent that his body can heal itself, he didn’t want to take any medicine or aloe vera supplements for his stomach ulcers. He didn’t want to think of himself as a helpless patient. I sorted through my memories of this soup and searched for the recipe to make it for us both to enjoy.

I definitely did not treat him as a patient under my care.  Most men want to be a hero for his wife or girlfriend. They try their best to hide their pain, don’t you agree?  My husband completely healed from eating better foods. One of the benefits of aloe vera is healing stomach ulcers, which is why I use it in many dishes at home.

1. How to Prepare an Aloe Vera Leaf to Eat

The whole aloe vera leaf can be toxic because it contains Aloin. Toxins can cause abdominal cramps and diarrhea.

My Great Grandma always grew Aloe Vera in her herbs garden, she didn’t know about Aloin, but she sure knew how to make to food safety for her loved ones. You can buy Aloe Vera Leaf in Super Market as well.

Here is how to make aloe vera safely:

  1. Use a sharp knife to cut the leaf from its stem.
  2. Don’t eat aloe vera immediately because the toxic Aloin yellow sap runs from the cut leaf. Let the leaf stand vertically for a few hours to drain out the sap.
  3. Skin off the leaf and only take the translucent pulps inside. You can follow the videos below. It took me about 2 minutes to take off the skin from one leaf.
  4. The pulp is very slimy, so make sure you rinse it off with salt water 3-4 times until the bitter taste is gone completely. Rinse well and strain using a colander. The pulp is now ready to use for multi-purposes. If you are diabetic, blend the Aloe vera pulp with vitamin fruit juice, it helps balance sugar, avoid sugar rush or too high sugar.

You can cut the aloe vera in cubes or long thin strips. It may look like Asian glass noodles, but it’s thicker and has no cabs. Aloe vera pulp contains many nutrients and minerals to help nourish the body to heal itself. Its slimy, low-glycemic munopolysaccharide can act as a  protective mucus for your stomach lining. In addition, one of the benefits of aloe vera is keeping the blood sugar stable. That’s why it also good for diabetic patients. There were studies proved that this mucopolysaccharide compound has immunostimulant, antiviral, ani-neoplastic, and gastrointestinal properties. It seems like a miracle drugs!

However, I don’t advise taking aloe vera juice or soup every day. Keep a balanced diet and consume various fruits and vegetable to ensure you don’t exclude any nutrients.

2. Pre-Frozen Home Made Bone Broth

I use the AKP home-made broth for this soup. It might seem time-consuming, but I make large batches after slow-cooking with Sauerkraut. The taste is not as strong as you might think. I strain the broth and keep in the freezer in the small glass jars for single use. If you find it is difficult to make, look for some good, high-quality bone broth, with no additives. One of my clients uses Bone Broth Co. I haven’t tried it yet, and have no affiliate with them, however, you may try it if you don’t have time to cook at home.

3. Directions for Making the Aloe Vera Soup

  1. Heat 2 Tbsp. of avocado oil or grapeseed oil. Sauté thinly sliced garlic, onion, & ginger. Stir for 30 seconds.
  2. Add de-frosted crab meat & stir 1-2 minutes. Stir to get the fishy odor evaporated.
  3. Add 1/2 cup bone broth & add 1/2 – 1 cup of water, depending on how thick you like the soup. Cook until boiling.
  4. Add 1 cup of prepared aloe vera. Boil for 2-3 minutes, then adds fish sauce or salt according to your taste.
  5. Add cilantro, green onions, and/or black pepper and serve hot immediately.
